Time Saving Tips For Moms in The Kitchen: Freezer Cooking!! Find Out How It Can Equal More Sex For You And Hubby!

by This Mama Works It! on February 6, 2010

Ok come on now freezer cooking and sex!! Give me a minute and I will explain.

First what the hell is freezer cooking. I am sure a lot of you already know but if you don't it is when you cook ahead numerous dinners and freeze them. So they are ready for when you need them. Some people cook once a week and I have read how some moms cook dinners for the whole month. That is my goal but I am not want to get too crazy yet.

So anyway...

Like all of you I am a very busy woman. I am a mommy, wife, and work full-time outside the home. The last thing I want to do when I get home is cook dinner. I don't mind cooking in fact I actually enjoy it very much. It is just the misery that has come along with it when I try to cook during the week. Let me explain.

Before I really learned about and utilized freezer cooking I would pick my girls up from daycare, get home, and then try to figure out what we were going to have for dinner. Now at that point all I want to do is hang out with my girls and hubby because I have not seen them all day. But someone has to cook dinner. And by this point everyone is tired and crabby and then lots of sibling fighting starts to happen. And mommy and daddy start getting stressed out. Can you all visual this in your head right now?

So one of three things would typically happen:

  1. I would still continue to make dinner through all the screaming and yelling. And by the time it is ready I am totally spent.
  2. Whipped up a box of mac n cheese with some turkey dogs. Now I don't mind doing this once in a while but I would rather not do it everyday.
  3. We order out. And this is bad for our budget and waistlines.

Well I finally got to the point where I just could not take it anymore. We needed to make a change. I wanted all of us to have fun at home together and I wanted all of us to eat healthy homemade dinners as a family.

Which is why I started freezer cooking. And it has made a huge difference.

Every two weeks on either Saturday or Sunday I get up early and cook about 5-7 homemade dinners. Then I portion them out and freeze them. It takes me about 5 hours total to cook all of it. And then during the week I take what we want to have out in the morning and when we get home we just warm it up in the microwave or stove and whoa-la. And because we don't have to do any major cooking that means less mess in the kitchen. It is awesome. And really this is great for when I am home Thursdays and Fridays because honestly I am busier when I am home than when I am at work. So freezer cooking is for SAHM and WOTHM (work outside the home moms).

Honestly it has change how we function as a family during the week and has drastically minimized our stress. Now of course I am still a little tired at the end of the day. What parent isn't? But I am not totally exhausted and mentally drained. So once we get the kids to bed hubby and I still have energy to spend quality time together. Sometimes we have enough energy for sex but sometimes we just like the piece and quiet. So that is how freezer cooking and sex is related. It makes mama less tired during the week so I have more energy for other "things".

Today was my freezer cooking day. Which is why I decided to write a post about it. I love it and it helps me totally work it.

So what did I make this week?

I made:

Turkey Meatballs for turkey meatball subs

Vegetarian Black Bean Chili

Turkey Taco Filling

Red Clam Sauce

Chicken Cacciatore

And I grilled up like 8 chicken breast that we will have with rice and vegetables.

You should smell my house right now. mmmmmm. If anyone wants recipes let me know and I will post them. Now you can use any recipe for freezer cooking. It just needs to be able to freeze well.

This is a picture of everything I made so far and put in the freezer. I still have the cacciatore on the stove.

Here are some of the dinner ready for the freezer.

I don't know why I did not do freezer cooking sooner because it has made such a huge difference in our quality of life during the week. I highly recommend it to any of you. Just try it. I bet you will be hooked.

So does anyone already do freezer cooking? If so do you love it as much as I do?  Also feel free to post any recipes you think would be great for freezer cooking.

I go through periods when I do this a lot and then when I don’t at all. I like my life better when I do!

I am glad I read this. I have only prepared meals to be frozen on occasion; I like your ideas. It really simplifies things to have dinner handy on any given day. I’d like the chili recipe and the turkey meatball one…You have me thinking about what I cook up tomorrow…

I do, but I’m less organized about it than you! :) When I make something that easily doubles and freezes then I do — things like tortilla soup, chili, spaghetti sauce, chicken & dumplings, etc. I put them in quart size bags in the freezer and freeze them. The trick is remembering to take it back out of the freezer in time to eat! Ha!

I’m not married, nor do I have any children, so my meals certainly don’t need to be as structured, nor is my time under as great a demand, but I love the idea of freezer cooking – it’s such a great trick for being able to do the cooking at whatever time is most convenient for you.
