How We Wasted Money This Week? Let Me Count The Ways!

by This Mama Works It! on February 11, 2010

Before I start my post let me first welcome any followers from the awesome Friday Follow meme hosted at Midday Escapes. If you have time grap a cup of coffee and browse around my little corner of the blogosphere. I try to offer my readers informational and juicy posts on my life as a working mom just trying my best to work it!

Ok now for my Friday post...

Since January 1st hubby and I have been dedicated to paying down debt and mastering financial fitness. I have to say we have been doing pretty good. For one, like I told you all last week, this is our first time ever on a budget. And being on budget means that you actually have to pay attention to what you spend your money on. And not just what you spend your money on but what you waste your money on.

In the past, when it came to impulse purchases I did not really care. I mean if we "needed it" then just by it right? Wrong! That is what got me into trouble and I sure what gets everyone else in debt into trouble. You need to think before you buy.

Well now that we are on a budget and really trying to get our finance into shape I am ultra aware of our spending habits. And even though I said we are doing good I feel like we slacked a bit this week.

This is how we wasted money:

  • I forgot to bring my dinner to work. I work long days Monday through Wednesday. And on Tuesday I brought my lunch but forgot dinner. I tried to hold out but ended up going to the student union to get some Taco Bell. So not only was that decision bad for my budget but it was also bad for my waistline. So money wasted = $5.00
  • I am obsessed with getting coffee. I try so hard to resist but I love having my coffee when I get to my office. Well I got 3 coffees this week at $1.65 each. So money wasted = $5.00
  • My husband HAD to go buy thank-you cards for everyone that attended Diva1 birthday party. I agreed yes let's send out thank-you cards. Well he goes to hallmark and spend freakin $30 on thank-you cards. WHAT!?! I was so annoyed. And now he refuses to bring them back. And he has hid them so I can't bring them back. I mean really is it so hard to go the $1 store? Or make them on the computer? What do people do with thank-you cards? Yep! Throw them out. So money wasted = $30.00
  • This money waster almost sent me right over the edge this week. As youknow I was having a bad week. Well first of all I spent ALL DAY Saturday cooking healthy homemade yummy dinners for the week. Sorry I have not posted the recipes yet hopefully tomorrow or Saturday. And yesterday instead of just taking one out and sticking it in the microwave hubby decided to go to McDonald's!!!! And spend $15 on crap! So the divas could have been eating some yummy healthy homemade food made by mommy but instead they ate nasty chicken nuggets and greasy fries. So money wasted = $15

So the total amount for money wasted is $55.

Now I know some of you may be thinking that isn't a lot. But to me I feel like right now we need to be totally committed to stop all wasteful spending until our bad habits have been broken. So it was a little discouraging that we fell "off the wagon" a but it is not a total lost cause. At least we can recognize when we are wrong and hold each other accountable.

The thing is that I feel such peace when I envision a debt free life. I want it so bad. And I know we can do it. We just need to stay focused.

So anyone else feel like coming clean on what they wasted their money on this week?

OHhh! Just hopped over from Follow Friday. :) I hear you loud and clear about the wasteful spending. Do I have to tell?! argh. This week I was a bit wasteful with buying myself a little jewelry holder – $5. DON’T NEED IT AT ALL. But… there was a funny frog on top, and it had kissy lips, and on the inside it said Kiss Me. LOL OK, seriously we do put a “blow” category in our budget. And that’s what I do with that money, just blow it! LOL Gotta have that category or I would go nuts. whew!
Great post! Can’t wait to read more!
