How We Turned Getting Our Taxes Done Into Date Day With Wine!

by This Mama Works It! on February 25, 2010

The last Thursday of every month Theta Mom hosts a Time out for Theta Mom Thursday where we talk about one hour that we got alone that month. Then you can go to her site and link up. How fun!

Here is mine.

I cannot believe how fast getting our taxes come up every year. A lot of people hate getting their taxes done because they have to pay. Hubby and I typically get money back so we actually enjoy going to see our accountant. Plus it means alone conversation time in the MILF mobile (aka the Minivan) and hopefully we get to grab a quick bite to eat afterward.

Over the last 5 years since our little darlings have arrived I have become very strategic in planning the day and time to get our taxes done. This year I chose President's Day. Both hubby and I are off on that day so we did not have to worry about taking a day off.  Also my mom and sister both work at places that are closed on President's Day so I knew we can get at least one of them to watch te girls for a couple hours. Once all plans were set freedom for a couple hours was in sight for hubby and I.

Excitement starts and planning begins.

As soon as I made all the arrangements I texted hubby the exciting news. Right away he texted me back "Sweet where are we going for lunch?" Yes my hubby used the word sweet and he loves going out to eat. And as you all know we have not been going out to eat that much because we have been on a very strict budget. So it was awhile since we got to sit down together at a nice restaurant. So hubby spent the week trying to find the perfect place for us to have our after taxes lunch date.

Day of the exciting event. Yes when you become a parent a day alone becomes an exciting event.

Hubby and I got dressed up. Not real dressed up but we weren't in our weekend wear either. Just a pair of nice jeans and sweaters. We looked awesome.  After we got ready we dropped the kids off at Grandma's. Then bolted out the door.

As soon as we got in the van I said "Ok what do you want to talk about". As many of you know it is nearly impossible to have a conversation with kids around. So when we get alone (and there is no sex involved) we have good discussions and make some big family decisions. But hubby was like "Let's just listen to some of our music". So he put on our place list from the ipod. It was great. No princess songs for this ride. So we sat in silence and just listened to music.

Then we got our taxes done. Nothing exciting during that time. Accept that we did get money back.

After that we were on our way to a nice restaurant. Not a chain. A real restaurant. Don't get me wrong I like chains but we wanted to go to a place where it is more likely that kids will not be there.

So we enter this beautiful restaurant and sat down. It was the perfect table. Almost like they knew we have not been out alone in awhile.

We order a delicious lunch and even ordered wine. We had wine at 1:00pm in the afternoon.

Just hubby and I alone for a couple hours on a Monday afternoon. It was perfect.

Nothing better than some wine with the hubs! And I know what you mean about those chains – most likely, kids won’t be at the ones that aren’t. Smart move!

Wow, how to make doing taxes sound like fun! You sure do know how to work it.

I haven’t done my Time Out yet but I think I’ll do a preview post, since it’s planned for this evening when I’m not allowed online.

That is awesome! And I feel exactly the same way about the restaurant thing. When we go out…I want NO KIDS! This means we usually end up spending more money, but I don’t care. and having daytime alone with Hubby? I can’t even remember the last time we did that?

What a clever tradition. Tax refund – let’s celebrate. We usually get a refund too, but it’s gone before we get it. I’m sure we can squeeze in a nice lunch and/or dinner.

Sounds wonderful…lunch and taxes. My hubby and I like to go to Starbucks and the Goodwill for our every-other Monday date. (Sounds exciting huh?) He has 3 day weekends every other week…those days out are very enjoyable. I am so glad you had an enjoyable one too.
